Let\u2019s have a look at how it is formed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th>Affirmative\/positive<\/th><th>Negative<\/th><th>Interrogative\/Question<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>I play<\/td><td>I don&#8217;t play<\/td><td>Do I play?<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>You play<\/td><td>You don&#8217;t play<\/td><td>Do you play?<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>He\/she\/it plays<\/td><td>He\/she\/it doesn&#8217;t play<\/td><td>Does he\/she\/it play?<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>We play<\/td><td>We don&#8217;t play<\/td><td>Do we play?<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>They play<\/td><td>They don&#8217;t play<\/td><td>Do they play?<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll hopefully notice that we only change the form for the third personal singular, for he\/she\/it, and we do this by adding \u201cs\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many verbs that end in \u201cy\u201d are changed to \u201cie\u201d, followed by adding the \u201cs\u201d \u2013 for example: tries, cries etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If we are using a verb that ends in \u201co\u201d, \u201cs\u201d, \u201cz\u201d, \u201cch\u201d, \u201cx\u201d or \u201csh\u201d we add \u201ces\u201d like so: goes, watches, does, buzzes etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have to do the same with the question and negative forms as well, but this time we don\u2019t add the \u201cs\u201d to the verb, but to the auxiliary \u201cdo\u201d \u2013 so it becomes \u201cdoes\u201d and \u201cdoesn\u2019t\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The present simple is the easiest tense and the one that students typically learn first.
