<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The coordinate conjunction is used to join two parts of a sentence. More specifically, the coordinate conjunction connects two parallel items in a sentence. The coordinate conjunction is used to join:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Two clauses in a compound sentence.<\/li>
  2. Two nouns.<\/li>
  3. Two verbs.<\/li>
  4. Two adjectives.<\/li>
  5. Two adverbs.<\/li>
  6. Two prepositions.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The seven coordinate conjunctions are: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The conjunctions nor, for, and so can only connect clauses. However, the conjunctions and, but, or, and yet can connect all of the above stated parallels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Two clauses:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    It is raining, so I didn’t go to the party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I was invited, but I didn’t go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The sun is shining, and the birds are chirping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Two nouns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Go to the supermarket and buy oranges, mangoes, cherries, and apples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    We sell a wide range of vehicles: landrovers, cars, motorcycles, and landcruisers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Two verbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Some exciting activities to do in Guyana include birdwatching and camping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Guyana is made up of three counties: Berbice, Essequibo, and Demerara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Two adjectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Oranges and cherries are both good sources of Vitamin C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Bananas and apples are good for the stomach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Two Adverbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    To avoid being caught, I crept stealthily and hastily into the house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Two prepositions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    After the rain, there was water inside and outside of the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
