Brazil<\/a> was originally a colony of Portugal, but gained independence in the year 1889.<\/p>\n

Brazil<\/a> shares borders with Uraguay to the south, Argentina and Paraguay to the southwest, \u00a0Bolivia and Peru to the west, Columbia to the northwest, and Guyana<\/a>, Venezuela, Suriname and French Guiana to the North.<\/p>\n

The capital of Brazil is Brasilia.<\/p>\n
