Last updated: December 5, 2017 at 1:13 am\"sunAs I mentioned in my article “Where on Earth,” some people prefer hot climates to cold ones, and vice-versa. As the nursery rhyme goes: some like it hot, some like it cold, some like it in the pot nine days old.<\/p>\n

So what kind of person are you? Do you like to live in cold regions of the earth where it snows? Or do you like hot regions where the sun is searing? Do you prefer to “enjoy the warm sunshine” of the Caribbean, or do you prefer to bathe in the snow like one of my students, Jane Johnson, once told me in glee?<\/p>\n

In this article, I’ll first discuss the hottest regions on earth from my own personal experiences, and next I’ll give it to you straight from the scientists.<\/p>\n

Some of the hottest places I’ve lived in, arranged by hottest first, are:<\/p>\n

Manuaus, Amazonas, Brazil.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Manuaus, a city in the state of Amazonas, Brazil, is definitely one of the hottest places on earth. The few times I visited there, I wondered how these people make out in all that heat. But my friend, Micaella, told me that she is “accustomed” or “acclimated.” What amazes me is the idea that the sun was supposed to darken the skin’s complexion: it doesn’t hold true in Manuaus. The vast majority of people there are perfectly white, in spite of the searing heat. Did I mention that Manuaus lies on the earth’s equator?<\/p>\n

Boa Vista, Roraima, Brazil<\/strong><\/p>\n

The city of Boa Vista, in the state of Roraima, in the country of Brazil, is located about 300 miles north of Manuaus. That’s 300 miles away from the equator! It’s 15 hours by bus to reach there from Manuaus. It’s not as hot as Manuaus, but it sure is hot. As one guy said, you don’t need a water-heating system there, when you open the shower, the water is always hot! Maybe it’s a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the idea!<\/p>\n

Bonfim, Roraima, Brazil<\/strong><\/p>\n

The city of Bonfim is located about 75 miles away from Boa Vista, and about 375 miles north of the Equator. But it’s still very very hot! I’ve lived in Bonfim for about one year, as of the time of the writing of this article.<\/p>\n

Lethem, Guyana, South America<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lethem is a town in Guyana, South America, bordering Brazil and right next to Bonfim. Yes, it’s very hot there too. If you’re a hot-weather guy, enjoy!<\/p>\n

Georgetown, Guyana<\/strong><\/p>\n

Now you’ve run about 700 miles north of the equator! You’re a real coward aren’t you! Well so am I,I guess! Georgetown is hot, but not so hot, being that it is right next to the mighty Atlantic Ocean. But, as one Peace Corp Volunteer from the US added: the sun in Guyana is brutal!<\/p>\n

I haven’t live in all regions of the earth as yet. I’ve heard that there is no place as hot as Africa. Now here’s the hottest places on earth according to the scientists!<\/p>\n

1. Death Valley, California, USA<\/h2>\n

2. Aziziyah, Libya<\/h2>\n

3. Dallol, Ethiopia<\/h2>\n

4. Wadi Halfa, Sudan<\/h2>\n

5. Dasht-e Loot, Iran<\/h2>\n

6. Tirat Zvi, Israel<\/h2>\n

7. Timbuktu, Mali<\/h2>\n

8. Kebili, Tunisia<\/h2>\n

9. Ghadames, Libya<\/h2>\n

10. Bandar-e Mahshahr, Iran<\/h2>\n
