We live in a world where most people want to get rich, but few realize the timeless truth that money is only an illusion, and true wealth is service to humanity. Imagine a world where everyone is rich, and no one needs to get up in the morning to go to work. Then there would be no one to produce food, build houses, or provide the countless services we all rely upon for a happy and comfortable life. If everyone were to get rich tomorrow, then everyone automatically becomes poor at the same time.

Financial riches then, when acquired in the wrong way, is equal to poverty. Too much money in the hands of the wrong people often lead to laziness, health problems, alcohol and substance abuse, and even human rights abuse. These are some examples of “how money becomes a curse.”

Of course, there is nothing wrong with getting rich. You should strive to do so. But chances are, you are richer than your wildest dreams right now, and just don’t know it.

At the end of the day, what really matters is not how much money or gold you have acquiring dust somewhere, but how much you have impacted the world with your service to humanity. It is your good or evil deeds which will follow you into the afterlife and bear testimony for or against you.

Throughout your lifetime, how many hungry mouths did you feed? How many people did you clothe and shelter? How well did you take care of your family? How many cups of coffee did you serve? How many acres of farm did you plant? Or how many students did you teach…whether or not you were being paid for it. This is where true wealth is found. Take pleasure in doing these things each day, and do the fullest you can do for each day. As Jesus said, “let the greatest among you be the servant among you.”
