Have you ever heard the term “software” or “software program” before and wondered what it meant? If you’re living in the 21st century, chances are, you have already heard the term “software” or “software program” before.
But what if I told you that there do exist some people who don’t know what the expression “software” or “software program” means? Would you be surprised? Rest assured, there are people who don’t know the meaning of the expression “software” or “software program”, as well as people who have never the expressions in their entire life. And for those of us who have been living under a rock, I’ll try to explain it all over again.
Often, the terms “software” and “software program” are interchangeable terms, meaning any one could be used in place of the other and mean the same thing-most, if not all, of the time.
Sometimes, when people hear the word “software” they think of some magical piece of device from a glorious world in another galaxy. But what if I told you that a software is nothing more than a few lines of code: strange letters and characters that gives instructions to a computer system?
Today there are software to help us do just about anything you can imagine, that can be done on a personal computer, tablet or mobile device. People who write the codes to create software are called “software engineers” or “software creators”.
Some of the most popular and successful software of all times are the Microsoft Office Suite, which includes: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel; and Microsoft PowerPoint. These however, are not free software, and they come with what some people may very well consider a hefty price.
On the other hand, there are almost always “open source” alternative to costly software. These open source software were created by developers from around the world who believe that even people without money should have the abilities to perform the task they need to perform.

One of the most successful open source software of all times is the Filezilla FTP software program. It is a software that helps web developers upload webpages to the world wide web. It rivals the expensive proprietary software for this category and in my opinion is far superior.

Software helps us to retouch photos, create word documents, create presentations, create illustrations, build webpages and much more. Sometimes we can get lost when trying to find the right software to get the job done.
