Silvana and the blade of Grass
While I was teaching English in Campo Verde, Mato Grosso, Brazil, at the Wizard School of Languages, Silvana, the owner of the school, asked me one afternoon to help her uproot some small shrubs in the front yard of the school.
I looked as Silvana struggled to uproot one small shrub, pulling at it and making shrieks as though it were a plant rooted five feet into the ground.
When I picked the shrub out with two fingers, Silvana looked amazed. As I pulled the other shrubs – four and five at a time – in rapid succession, Silvana exclaimed “Meu Deus Patrick! Que força”. Translated: My God Patrick! What force!
(Related: Silvana taught me about personal marketing.)
