earth photoLines of longitude are lines running top to bottom or north to south on the map of the earth. As you may know, the earth is shaped like a globe. And not, it’s not flat! Just in case you’ve been watching some of those flat earth videos.

Lines of longitude are not really there. They are imaginary lines that we place there to help us pinpoint locations on the earth with well…pinpoint accuracy.

Lines of longitude are also called “meridians.” The Prime Meridian is the starting point for lines of longitude. The Prime Meridian runs across the British Royal Observatory in Greenwich, England from the North Pole to the South Pole.

Lines of longitude, when used with lines of latitude, gives us coordinates for just about any spot on earth.
