“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us. The Bible – Ecclesiastes 1:9-10″

Some time back, some friends and I went to visit a remote village in the North Rupununi Savannas of Guyan. The people there led a very primitive lifestyle. This was not surprising but a thought crossed my mind: nothing in life ever changes. but it sometimes moves from one place to the other.

Read about my trip to Kaicumbay Village here.

After giving thought to the idea, I wrote the following email to my friend, Rayborn Lewis.

“Hi Rayborn,

I’d like to share an idea with you; an idea which I think you are one of the few persons with the intellect to appreciate.

The other day, I drove to a remote Amerindian village in the Rupununi Savannas of Guyana. The people there lived in mud huts.

Now, can you fathom the idea, that thousands of years after creation, people are still living such primitive lives? And we know that it gets even more primitive in certainly localities.

About 400 years ago, my ancestors lived the same experience in India. But then, after migrating, they evolved to a higher level of existence.

This process of evolution witnessed many young men and women getting excited about things like beauty and fashion products, motor cars, university degrees, and white collar jobs.

Do you know that some people in some parts of the world are now experiencing this same stage of evolution? I’ve witnessed it. Young men and women are starting to adapt to a more civilized lifestyle in the same way my ancestors did 100 years ago.

And this will never stop. There will ALWAYS be some people going through this phase of evolution. ALWAYS. Some people today are experiencing the same fears, hopes dreams and aspirations as some other people did thousands of years ago.

And this leads me to believe that nothing in the world or universe ever changes. Perhaps billions of light years away, in a far away planet, the people there are now learning the use of fossil fuel.

Remember how you said that in terms of racism, Brazil is now going through what the US went through about 60 years ago?

Don’t you believe that somewhere on earth, there is young man now facing all the problems and confusions you faced about 20 years ago?

Yes, that is the reality of the situation. The universe has no beginning and no end. The same things keep repeating themselves; at different localities.

Now take a look at these bible verses from the book of Ecclesiastes:

The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.

That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.

These verses once confused me a lot. But now I understand.

It’s possible that somewhere in a far away galaxy, right now, the Wright brothers are pioneering powered flight.

Somewhere on our earth right now, some very primitive humans are learning the use of iron, just as it happened thousands of years ago.

The same thing that happened in Guyana 500 years ago is presently happening again somewhere else in the world or universe. Doesn’t this make sense?
