I couldn’t help staring…. This is, hands down, one of the most beautiful pictures (if not *the* most beautiful) I have ever seen in my entire life.

The picture is of a young girl from Brazil, Jaqueline Alves, posing with her dad, a cart vendor, in the streets of Brazil. (Take at look at your boy’s pose by the way :P)

I first spotted the picture on one of my friend’s Facebook news feeds. I quickly hit the like button, but I kept staring. What I saw was more than words can describe. On July 23rd, 2015, seventeen year of Jacqueline Alves wrote:

I’m never ashamed of you. Even when you walk unkempt and dirty. I’m always proud of the dad that I have. He was always a gift of a father and I love him so much with his little games etc. Nothing in this earth will make me happy but knowing that I have a man on this earth who truly loves me; and who I love even more; and who I’ll never be tired of being proud of…regardless of how he dresses or walks. I love you. I love you. I love you. Paulo Fereira Alves. My pride. My man. My king. My everything. Kisses.

Certainly, this is a true story of love; or a story of true love…however you want to put it. It depicts a father who just didn’t “give up” in spite of all the challenges he evidently might have faced in life…all the set backs. He “focused forward” with all his might, and did what was pleasing in God’s eyes; and among men, who could say nay?

Many people look at the picture and see different things, based on their own life experiences, understanding and interpretation of life. One reader commented “What a beautiful girl! And what’s more, she has a beautiful heart”.

I wanted to say the same thing. Indeed, here is a girl who is beautiful not just on the outside, but inwardly as well.

Can you contrast this story with parents who have so much resources, education and even money, and spend far less on their children? Yes. It does happen. These children grow up to strongly dislike (to use light words) their parents, even though they may not show it at times because of their love for God.

Do you remember the story of Jesus and the old woman in the synagogue? She gave her last two dimes to God. Jesus then explained how this woman had given more than the rich man who gave “thousands” out of his “millions”. Indeed God is a God of proportions, as He says “by what mete you measure…the same shall be measured back to you”.

When you give your all, regardless of the circumstances, regardless of your limitless resources…when you try your best…God sees it; He hears and He understands.

And in the picture above, this beautiful child of God sees, hears and understands just as much.
