The first people to have lived in Guyana are called Amerindians.
Os europeus chegaram muitos séculos atrás, durante a busca por uma cidade mítica de ouro chamado Eldorado.
Europeans arrived many centuries ago during the search for a mythical city of Gold called Eldorado.
Nunca encontraram aquela cidade, mas os europeus encontraram novas maneiras de encontrar ouro.
They never found that city, but the Europeans found new ways of striking gold.
Eles estabeleceram plantações de açúcar e fizeram grande riqueza e produtividade que se estenderiam para as gerações vindouras.
